Crime Stoppers Crime of the Week - April 3rd, 2008

Hi, I'm Officer Paula Morrow, Crime Stoppers' Coordinator for Sangamon and Menard Counties.

This week Crime Stoppers is seeking information on eleven cases of Criminal Damage and/or Thefts from coin operated machines. The thefts occurred between February 26th and March 21st, primarily in the evening to early morning hours. The suspect or suspects made entry to the machines by prying or punching out the bill validator.

The suspects are not targeting one specific area of the city, but are striking at locations throughout the entire city. The Springfield Police Department is investigating the possibility that these crimes are linked to a rash of criminal damage and theft to coin operated machinery that occurred between November 2007 and January 2008. Over 40 machines were damaged during this time frame.

If you notice any suspicious activity around a vending machines, you can remain completely anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 217-788-8427 [1-800-397-2288], submitting a tip via the internet or use a cell phone to send a tip. You could get a cash reward of up to $1000.

Remember Crime Stoppers wants your information, not your name.
