Crime Stoppers Crime of the Week - June 28th, 2008

Hi, I'm Officer Paula Morrow, Crime Stoppers' Coordinator for Sangamon and Menard Counties.

This week Crime Stoppers is seeking information on an aggravated battery and an Attempt sexual assault that occurred on Sunday, June 22nd at 6:40 am on the Wabash Trail.

A female victim was walking on the trail when she noticed a male subject following closely behind her. The suspect had undone his pants and was holding a knife. He made statements to the victim and when she refused, he attempted to stab her with the knife. A struggle between the victim and the attacker ensued, and the victim was knocked to the ground. The attacker attempted to pull off her shirt and bra, but she continued to fight off the attacker.

The victim was able to call 911 on her cell phone and the suspect ran away on foot. The victim did suffer several cuts on her hand and fingers. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, mid to late teens, approximately 5'6" who was wearing a long sleeve brown shirt and loose fitting jeans at the time of the attack.

If you have information on this crime, you can remain completely anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 217-788-8427 [1-800-397-2288], submitting a tip via the internet or use a cell phone to send a tip. You could get a cash reward of up to $1000.

Remember Crime Stoppers wants your information, not your name.
