Stoppers Crime of the
Week - July 24th, 2008
Hi,
I'm Officer Paula Morrow, Crime Stoppers' Coordinator
for Sangamon and Menard Counties.
This week Crime Stoppers is seeking information on
an aggravated battery and an Attempt sexual assault
that occurred on Sunday, June 22nd at 6:40 am on the
Wabash Trail. A female victim was walking on the trail
when she noticed a male subject following closely behind
her. The suspect had undone his pants and was holding
a knife. He made statements to the victim and when she
refused, he attempted to stab her with the knife. A
struggle between the victim and the attacker ensued,
and the victim was knocked to the ground. The attacker
attempted to pull off her shirt and bra, but she continued
to fight off the attacker.
The victim was able to call 911 on her cell phone and
the suspect ran away on foot. The victim did suffer
several cuts on her hand and fingers. The suspect is
described as a Hispanic male, mid to late teens, approximately
5'6" who was wearing a long sleeve brown shirt
and loose fitting jeans at the time of the attack [see
sketch below].
