I'm Officer Butch Slater, Crime Stoppers' Coordinator
for Sangamon and Menard Counties.
This week Crime Stoppers is seeking information about
an attempted arson that occurred on Tuesday August 11th
in the 3600 block of River Road in Riverton. A hold
up alarm was received for the victim's residence and
when officers arrived on scene they were met by the
victim. Officers were then directed to the south side
of the residence and observed a large area of burnt
material near the homes foundation. Upon further investigation
an odor of a combustible liquid was detected. In addition
the victim's bedroom is also on the south side of the
residence where the fire was located and it also appears
that unknown person poured the combustible liquid around
the gas meter.
