Crime
Stoppers President - Steve Myers 2007-2008
The
Myers Family has been involved in the history of both
Sangamon and Menard counties since 1854. In October
of that year, Morris Myers (my great-great grandfather)
became a resident of Athens in Menard County. In May
of 1865 he moved his family to Springfield. My grandfather
Alan J. Myers was among a group of civic minded individuals
who actually banded together in the 1970's to provide
money to anonymous tipsters. That group (originally
known as Anti-Illicit Drugs in Sangamon/Menard counties)
eventually became part of the Crime Stoppers organization
in 1983.
It
has been both my privilege and pleasure to have served
the organization in many capacities since being appointed
to the Board of Directors after the death of my grandfather
and re-elected to positions since 1994 including Advisory
Committee on Law Enforcement and Member-at-Large.
It
is indeed with a great sense of community pride and
gratitude that I serve the wonderful communities in
both Sangamon/Menard counties. I would like to take
this opportunity to thank our partners including the
media, law enforcement, our dedicated Board of Directors
and concerned citizens like you that help make our communities
a safer place to live.
