Heidi
Homeier was born and raised in Springfield. She attended
Chatham and Springfield Schools and received her BA
in Criminal Justice from UIS. She was also in the US
Coast Guard. She worked several years with the Illinois
State Police Academy. She has traveled as far as Japan
to Paris, France.
Homeier
was hired by the SPD in January 2001. While at the Academy
she was awarded the "Most Physical Fit" award.
The first day on the street solo patrol was September
11, 2001, of which she will never forget. She was on
the street until September 2002 when she came aboard
with Community Relations (now Crime Prevention) as the
recruiting officer. She is very grateful for the tools
the SPD have provided her to complete her job duties.
In September she was very active in pursing colleges
recruits in the state and surrounding cities. Whenever
there was a job fair Homeier would be there.
She
recently took part in assisting the Woman's' Auxiliary
in entering a tree for the Memorial "Festival of
Trees". She also accompanied the Mayor to their
sister city in Japan. She also works part-time at the
FitClub as a fitness instructor and a certified personal
trainer. She said that being a police officer has challenged
her walk with the Lord in that she has to continue to
evaluate where she is and to walk- the- walk before
she talks- the- talk.
