This week Crime Stoppers is seeking to assist the Springfield Police Department to identify an individual reference counterfeit money. On September 10th Officers responded to Nancy’s Pizza, 2301 W Monroe, in reference to an individual using a fake $50 bill.  The suspect was described as a black male wearing a grey shirt, black pants and a dew rag.  The suspect placed an order and used counterfeit money to pay.  It was discovered at that time by officers that the suspect had done the exact same thing to 3 other business in that location within the same time frame. This week Crime Stoppers is seeking information to assist the Chatham Police Department reference multiple catalytic convertor thefts that occurred between March 12th and April 27th resulting in $4,000 in thefts. 3 of the thefts occurred at Iron Gate Storage located on Mansion Rd. The other three incidents occurred in 100 block of S College, the 400 Block of E Chestnut and the 800 Block of N Park, all of which occurred in the driveway of the victims. In the last month, there have been multiple attempts to burglarize ATMs in different locations in Springfield which has resulted in not only felony criminal damages but also felony thefts of currency. This week Crime Stoppers is seeking information to assist the Springfield Police Department reference a residential burglary, theft and criminal damage that occurred in the 3400 block on E Carpenter around 6:15 p.m. on April 2nd. The home owner arrived home when they saw a white Chevrolet Malibu in their driveway. A male subject jumped the fence while the vehicle began to drive away. The driver of the vehicle stopped to allow the other male to get in and they left the area. $400 in damage and $400 in thefts occurred during the burglary. This week Crime Stoppers is seeking information to assist the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office reference an attempted theft and felony criminal damage that occurred on March 27th, 2023 just before 6:00 a.m. at Cabinetland located at 4340 Peoria Rd in Springfield, IL. A male suspect cut a catalytic convertor off of one of the box trucks causing $4,000 in damage. After the male removed the convertor, an employee arrived on scene at which point the suspect left the convertor and drove away in a dark color sedan. This week Crime Stoppers is seeking information to assist the Springfield Police Department reference a burglary, theft and criminal damage that took place at 510 E Monroe St just after 6:00am. on March 1st, 2023. The suspects appeared to have forced entry into the building before taking an assortment of items including copper pipe, wire and aluminum stud beams. Over $5,000 in property was stolen and $500 in damage was done by the suspects before they fled the area on a 4 wheeler. This week Crime Stoppers is seeking information to assist the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office reference two felony criminal damage cases in Springfield. The first incident occurred on March 10th 2023 in the 3700 block of Camp Butler RD. The second incident occurred between March 14th and 15th at the CWLP sub station located at 3600 Ridgley RD. In both incidents, a large amount of fiber optic wire was damaged causing approximately $55,000 in damage collectively between both incidents. This week Crime Stoppers wants to make you aware of two upcoming fundraisers. The north end masters will be taking place Saturday April 8th from 12:00 p.m.-6:00p.m. The cost is $15 if you register early or $20 the day of. Crime Stoppers is also starting a queen of hearts drawing with the drawing being every Sunday at Weebles at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are available for $1 each and you must be at least 21 to participate. Tickets will be available for purchase at multiple satellite locations. This week Crime Stoppers is seeking information to assist the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office reference a felony theft that occurred during the early morning hours on March 5th, 2023 at the Animal Protective League located at 1001 Taintor road. During the theft multiple items were taken including a work platform and six 55 gallon barrels. Video shows a male subject in a single cab truck loading the work platform into the truck however it is unclear if he also stole the barrels. The items stolen were valued at $540. Multiple shots were fired by the suspect during the incident, however no one was injured and no property was damaged. After the shots were fired, the suspect fled the area on foot. There has been an increase in multiple different versions of scams including amazon scams, romance scams, and recently a variety of scams where the victim is asked to download an app called Anydesk. Never allow anyone to remotely access your computer unless you are sure they are legitimate technical support. Since January 1st, 2023, the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office and Springfield Police Department have taken multiple reports resulting in financial scams collectively totaling over $900,000.
