Springfield Police have been actively investigating, and have solved, several of the recent incidents in which shots have been fired in the area and we are pleased with the success of their vigilance. There are still a few unsolved shots fired cases out there and we encourage your tips which will lead to further arrests. With that said, however, there remains an unsolved armed robbery which took place at the Dollar General store on Wabash Avenue on April 18th . A masked gunman, possibly a 6 foot tall light skinned black male, made off with the contents of a cash drawer in the robbery. The main perpetrator was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, tan cargo pants, and black shoes. The investigation has revealed that there were other persons involved in this incident and police are looking for names of any persons involved.

This week Crime Stoppers is seeking information to assist the Springfield Police Department reference a hit and run involving a pedestrian.  On Saturday, April 25th, 2026 at approximately 9:25 p.m., a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle near the intersection of Wabash and Corbin near Scooter’s Coffee. After striking the pedestrian, the vehicle did not stop and fled the scene of the crash. The pedestrian, who suffered multiple injuries, was transported to a local hospital where they are currently being treated. This week Crime Stoppers is seeking information to assist the Petersburg Police Department to identify a suspect reference to a theft.  On April 10th, 2026, officers responded to Dollar General, 1018 N 6th, in reference to a theft.  Around 6pm a black male suspect wearing a white t-shirt and dark colored coat entered the store and approached an employee.  The suspect distracted the employee by making multiple transactions which led to the suspect stealing over $2,400 in cash and merchandise.  Images of the individual can be found on this website, cashfortips.us. This week, Crime Stoppers is highlighting our campaign to combat the fentanyl crisis by offering a minimum reward of $1,500 for information leading to the arrest of anyone dealing fentanyl.  According to the IDPH, overdose deaths have trended upward since 2013. However, Illinois saw an 8.3% decline in overall drug overdose deaths in 2023, with synthetic opioid fatalities decreasing by 9.5%.  In Sangamon County, overdose deaths declined for the first time in seven years. Last year, there were 80 accidental overdose deaths, compared to 90 the previous year. This week Crime Stoppers is seeking information to assist the Sangamon County Sherriff’s Office in reference to a burglary and theft that occurred in the 4300 block of Mount Pulaski Road in rural Illiopolis.  Between 5pm on March 1st and 7 am on March 2nd unknown person(s) entered a job site and took a 48-inch orange Rigid toolbox along with a 30 black Rigid Toolbox.  Those boxes contained various Milwaukee and Dewalt power tools valued at $1,000.  If photos become available, they will be posted on this website cashfortips.us. This week Crime Stoppers is seeking information to assist the Springfield Police Department to identify an individual in reference to a theft and unlawful use of credit card.  On January 22nd, 2026, officers received a report of a lost credit card and the credit card was used at various businesses around Springfield. Video from the businesses show the suspect, who appears to be a black male wearing a blue coat making several purchases in town totaling hundreds of dollars.  Images of the suspect can be found on this website, cashfortips.us. This week Crime Stoppers is seeking information to assist the Sangamon County Sherrif’s Office to identify an individual in reference to a burglary and criminal damage.  On February 21st, 2026, at approximately 1:30am a black male, with a beard, wearing a stocking cap forced entry into 217 Comics and Games, 1820 Stevenson Dr. in Springfield.  Video shows the male suspect throwing a concrete block through the glass door to gain entry to the business.  Once inside the business the suspect attempted to steal the cash register before fleeing east towards Stanton Ave.  Images of the individual can be found on this website, cashfortips.us. This week Crime Stoppers is seeking information to assist the Springfield Police Department in reference to two commercial burglaries.   On February 15th around 9:30 pm an unknown male forced entry into Daisy Jane’s, 9 W Old State Capital, causing over $1,500 in damages. On February 16th around 8pm an unknown male forced entry into Custom Cup, 319 E. This week Crime Stoppers is seeking information to assist the Springfield Police Department in reference to a theft and criminal damage that occurred at First Presbyterian Church located at 321 S 7th in Springfield.  Officers responded to the church in reference to someone damaging and stealing the copper downspouts from the church.  Video shows on January 18th around 1 am a white male wearing a black and yellow coat with a large “B” or “8” on the left sleeve, removing a large section of downspout.  Images of the suspect can be found on this website, cashfortips.us. This week Crime Stoppers is seeking information to assist the Springfield Police Department in reference to retail theft the occurred at Best Buy located at 3193 S. Veterans Parkway in Springfield.  On December 18th around 6:30 pm two black male suspects entered the store. One suspect, wearing a black coat, stole a PS5 and Xbox off the shelf while the other suspect in a blue coat distracted employees.  Both subjects ran out of the store and got into a silver vehicle and fled the scene.  Images of the suspects can be found on our website, cashfortips.us. This week Crime Stoppers is seeking information to assist the Springfield Police Department in reference to criminal damage that occurred at Identi-Check loacted at 3 North Old State Capitol in Springfield.  On November 24th officers were called to the business for a report of a window being broken out.   Video shows that on November 24th around 2 am a black male wearing a gray jacket and black pants outside the business, pick up a brick and throw it at the building, causing over $10,000 in damage.  Images of the suspect can be found on this website, cashfortips.us.
