Crime Stoppers would like to take a moment to talk about how you can stay safe from scammers! Scammers are very manipulative, persuasive and masters at gaining your trust, don’t become a victim!  Some helpful tips are; never provide any personal information about yourself to anyone that you do not know or trust.  If someone is asking you to pay for services using gift cards, that is most likely a scam!  Scammers will also contact you posing as technical support and tell you that your computer has a virus or needs new antivirus or spyware software when there are actually no issues with your computer!  Never allow anyone to remotely access your computer unless you are sure they are legitimate Technical Support.  The IRS/Social Security Administration will not attempt to collect a debt from you over the phone and they will not send local Law Enforcement to arrest you or issue a warrant.  Before hiring a contractor for any work on your home ask them for referrals and do your homework before hiring them or making any initial payments.  If someone asks you to send them money so they can send you a larger amount of money or avoid paying taxes that is a scam.  If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!  If you are unsure, run it by a trusted friend or family member and get a second opinion before sending money to someone you don’t know.  If you have information about crime, call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 788-8427.

This week Crime Stoppers is seeking information to assist the Springfield Police Department in reference to a homicide that occurred near the area of 14th and Cornell in Springfield around 5:50 p.m. on August 18th, 2025. Officers responded to the area for a report of shots fired. During the incident, Officers found 3 victims with gunshot wounds, one of which was tragically killed.  Crime Stoppers needs your help solving this case. This week Crime Stoppers is seeking to assist the Springfield Police Department to identify two individuals in reference to a felony retail theft that occurred at Family Dollar, 1935 W Monroe, in Springfield.  On July 25th, 2025, around 8:30 pm two black males, approximately 20 years old, entered the store and purchased two gift cards.  After the transaction was completed with both suspects using the same card to pay, it was discovered the card they used was fraudulent.   One of the black males had long dreads wearing a white T-Shirt and the other was wearing a black shirt and orange shorts.  Both males fled the store heading south.  Images of the individual can be found on this website, cashfortips.us. This week, Crime Stoppers is seeking information to assist the Illinois State Police in the ongoing investigation into the homicide of Teresa Coleman. This week Crime Stoppers is seeking to assist the Springfield Police Department to identify an individual in reference to a burglary that occurred at U Top Fashion, 846 E. South Grand, in Springfield.  On May 6th, 2025, around 4 pm an unknown black male suspect forced entry to a storage shed on the property.  Once inside, the suspect stole hundreds of dollars in property before fleeing south from the store.   At the time the suspect was wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt and khaki shorts.  Images of the individual can be found on this website, cashfortips.us. This week Crime Stoppers is seeking information to assist the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office in reference to a burglary that occurred in the Lake Knolls Subdividion in Chatham, IL.  On June 14th, 2025, around 1 pm a dark colored Chevrolet Blazer was observed in the area.  The blazer pulled into a drive and a female occupant got out and distracted a homeowner.  Another occupant of the vehicle got out and entered the residence and stole coin collections, jewelry, and cash.   Images of the vehicle can be found on this website, cashfortips.us.
