A Springfield woman is dead after being shot early Sunday near her home. Springfield police said the woman was shot in the 1300 block of Clay Street. Police received call of a shooting at 4:51 a.m. The woman was taken to HSHS St. John's Hospital, where she died shortly after from a gunshot wound.
Police said the woman, who was in her early 40s, was shot in the head. Springfield police said Sunday evening no one has been arrested in connection with the woman's death.
The death is the city of Springfield's third homicide case of the year.
