Trivia 2022 Postponed

Due to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in our region, Crime Stoppers is postponing this year’s annual Trivia Night, scheduled for Saturday, January 29, 2022 at the BOS Center. We care about the health and wellbeing of everyone involved with this event, especially all of our participants. and do not want to cause more people to become unnecessarily exposed to the virus or infected.

Hopefully, it will become the norm in the future and we will be able to reschedule the event. Until then, we will continue to plan for a Trivia Night featuring challenging questions, exciting guest moderators and a host of prizes and other surprises.

We thank everyone in Sangamon and Menard Counties for their generous support of Crime Stoppers. We are especially grateful to the many organizations and individuals who contribute to making our Trivia Nights successful.

Another Illinois State Fair Parade for the record books! We enjoy participating in the annual Twilight Parade and appreciate having the opportunity to share awareness regarding our program. Please join Crime Stoppers of Sangamon & Menard Counties for our 1st Annual "Take Flight in the Fight Against Crime" fundraiser, Labor Day weekend, September 4, 2016, at the Springfield Capitol Airport located in the Levi, Ray & Shoup Inc. (LRS) Hangar, as we raise additional funds to fight crime.

The event will start at 4:00 p.m. with live music provided by two of the best bands in Central Illinois...The Deep Hollow and The Shenanigans.

Every month, Storm Team 20 partners with Green Family stores for their 3-degree weather guarantee. If forecasters correctly predict the next day's high within 3 degrees, a local charity wins money. For the month of July, the charity of choice was Crime Stoppers of Sangamon & Menard Counties. We received a check for $2000 which will be used to keep criminals off our streets! Thank you Green Family Stores and Storm Team 20 for all you do in our community!

Four people were shot, but nobody was killed in three separate incidents of gunfire in Springfield overnight Saturday, police said. One has a suspect in custody, police are requesting your assistance in solving the other three. Click the title or read more to see details of the three incidents.

Information wanted on local shooting

A Springfield woman is dead after being shot early Sunday near her home. Springfield police said the woman was shot in the 1300 block of Clay Street. Police received call of a shooting at 4:51 a.m. The woman was taken to HSHS St. John's Hospital, where she died shortly after from a gunshot wound.

Mailbox vandalism

At least 15 mailboxes were vandalized at homes west of Veterans Parkway the past three days, police said.

Among the areas hit were houses near Old Jacksonville Road, Bunker Hill Road and Farmingdale Road, according to the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office.

Gas station on West Monroe robbed

A robber threatened a gas station clerk with a knife and demanded money at 3:30 a.m. Saturday.

Police said the clerk was making coffee when a man carrying a knife with a scarf partially covering his face entered the store, located at 2641 W. Monroe St.

The robber ran toward the clerk with a knife, which had a 6-inch blade, and pushed him to the ground and demanded money from the register.

Seeking information on last week’s vandalism spree that damaged a concession stand at Gietl Park and a window at Wilcox Elementary School which appear to be the work of the same person or group of people.

The Springfield Police Department and the Sangamon County State's Attorney's Office are asking for the public's help in finding these people wanted for criminal offenses. Information useful to police include where wanted people are staying, what type of vehicle they are in, known hangouts or people they have been seen with recently.
