Crime Stoppers Board Increases Maximum Rewards

Crime Stoppers of Sangamon and Menard Counties has announced that its Board of Directors has approved increasing the maximum amount that individuals could receive for providing tips that help solve most crimes. It will go from $1,000 to $2,500. The maximum reward for information leading to arrests in homicide cases has been increased to $5000. The increases took effect immediately.

“Sometimes offering a maximum of $1,000 just wasn’t sufficient to elicit the information needed to solve crimes in our counties,” said Terry Farmer, president of Crime Stoppers. “By raising the maximum we are informing the public that they could receive up to $2,500 for their confidential information. It is important that we continue to provide an attractive incentive to help our law enforcement partners solve crimes quickly.”

The permanent increase to $5000 cash reward for tips leading to arrests in all homicide cases followed a program in 2016 which offered a $5000 cash reward in Cold Case Homicides.

As always, every payout for tips provided to Crime Stoppers of Sangamon and Menard Counties is handled on a case by case basis. The amount of each payout is individually determined based upon a number of factors as no two crimes are alike and several tips could be different for the same crime. For a payout to occur, the information must be of a nature that it leads to an arrest and it must be information which has not already been received and is not known by law enforcement. Information which collaborates or verifies investigative leads sufficiently to lead to an arrest can result in Crime Stopper cash rewards.

Crime Stoppers is a nonprofit organization, funded entirely by fundraisers and donations from citizens and civic organizations. Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards up to $2,500 for information resulting in an arrest and you remain completely anonymous.
