September 1st through the 7th is National Crime Prevention Week, and it’s a good reminder that keeping our communities safe isn’t just the responsibility of law enforcement. We all have a role to play.

Crime prevention starts with some simple things we can all do. Lock your doors, windows, and vehicles. Keep outdoor areas well-lit, and don’t leave valuables where they can easily be seen.

But keeping our community safe goes beyond our own front doors. Get to know your neighbors, stay involved in what’s happening around you, and talk with your kids about making safe choices. And when something doesn’t look right, don't ignore it - report it.

Most importantly, look out for one another. Pay attention. Speak up. And don’t assume someone else will make the call.

Safer communities don’t happen by accident. They happen when all of us work together.

This week, Crime Stoppers is seeking information to help the Springfield Police Department to identify an individual in reference to criminal damage. 

On July 30th, 2026, around 5:30 pm, a white male was seen in the 700 block of West Miller in Springfield loitering around the area.  Video shows the white male walk over to a utility pole and began tampering with wires at the base.  The suspect then cuts an internet service line and before fleeing the area.

This week, Crime Stoppers is seeking information to help the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office to identify two individuals involved in a theft.

On June 29th, 2026, around 1:30 pm a white female with blonde hair and a white male with a beard and glasses were seen at a water treatment facility in the 700 block of Mt Auburn Road in Illiopolis.  The two suspects, who didn’t have permission to be there, stole a water meter valued at $4,000.00 and fled the scene.

This week Crime Stoppers is seeking to assist the Springfield Police Department to identify an individual reference criminal damage that occurred at Bunn O Matic located at 1400 Stevenson Dr., in Springfield.  On May 25, 2026, at approximately 10:45 am., a white female suspect wearing all black clothing entered the vestibule area and caused damage to drywall, trim and an air conditioner unit. The suspect was described as 20 -30 years old, medium height, thin with long black hair.  Photos of the suspect are posted on this website, cashfortips.us. This week Crime Stoppers is seeking to assist the Southern View Police Department to identify an individual reference a robbery that occurred in the 3300 block of S. 6^th Road, in Springfield.  On May 1, 2026, at approximately 5:30 p.m., a black male suspect wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and red pants approached an individual and asked for money for a ride. When the victim attempted to assist, the suspect battered the victim and stole more than $1,000 before fleeing the area. Images of the individual can be found on this website, cashfortips.us.
