Another Springfield dollar store robbed; fourth in a month

Springfield police are seeking information about a robbery at the Family Dollar store at 313 North Grand Ave. E. Wednesday afternoon. A man walked into the store at 1:53 p.m., approached the clerk and demanded money, police said. After receiving the money, he fled the store on foot. No weapon was displayed. The man was described as black, 5-foot-10 to 6 feet tall, with a thin build, thin beard and a dark-colored shirt and ball cap. Police are investigating the possibility of a link between Wednesday's robbery and three robberies at different Dollar General stores in Springfield over the past month. The last incident occurred March 3 when the Dollar General at 101 North Grand Ave. W. was robbed by a man who implied he had a gun. The first Dollar General robbery occurred about 8:30 p.m. Feb. 23 at 2015 North Grand Ave. E. Police said the robber approached the checkout area, displayed a handgun and demanded money. The clerk complied, and the man ran out of the store. Two days later on Feb. 25, a man entered the Dollar General at 1241 Knoll Pointe Place, just off South Grand Avenue East, about 10:40 a.m. He displayed a handgun and demanded money. The clerk complied, and the man fled.
